VIETNAM - Ha Noi

We got a train from Nin Binh to Ha Noi which took about 2 hours.

Inga managed to pay 100,000 dong ($10) for a 10,000 ($1) taxi ride to the hotel. The hotel we were going to stay at was being demolished or done up or something (it wasn't a trick we checked), so we had to fight our way through touts and a few hotels to find a place to stay for the night. It ended up having a LOVELY Vietnamese propaganda loud speaker right outside, pointing into our window (half an hour of "announcements" at 6:30pm and 7:30am). Mmmm mmm mm, neato.

We stuffed around a bit that first afternoon, then got a couple of locals to motorbike taxi us round some of the interesting looking city sites the next day (museum of ethnology, temple of literature, airforce museum and Lenin park).

The airforce museum was either going through refurbishment, or was just a piece of krap like so many other things... lots of fun tho.... check out the downed US plane - and the remnants from lots of other ones. The plaque says something like "America - you suck, look at what we do to your planes." It had numbers of how many had been shot down as well. There was lots of other captured stuff round as well.
