HUNGARY - Budapest
We popped over to Budapest for the weekend. Inga ate the biggest schnitzel (or bécsi szelet in Hungarian) in the world (check it out - it's almost as big as her head!!).
After a bit of faffing about and Matt complaining that he didn't want to do what Inga had organised we managed a very pleasant wander round some of the sights - Budapest is full of really grandiose falling down buildings, huge wide squares and treelined promenade type roads - even some of the underground system has grand old wooden carriages.
We climbed up to the Buda castle and spent ages poking around in the museum and the surrounding area including the fantasy like 'fisherman's bastion' where you can see out over the city from in amongst the turrets of the monument. We also went for a swim in one of the thermal baths - amazing having a swim under vaulted ceilings, art nouveau marble columns and statues. Crazy soviet style changing room attendants too (still not sure if I did something wrong, or they are just that grumpy).
I think our favourite part though was a crazy bar that we found that was established in an abandoned building and had lots of little nooks and crannys with weird artwork that was part of the tables and light fixtures. It had quite a 'Wellington' feel about it apart from all the speaking in Hungarian and drinking palinka.
