GERMANY - Konzentrationslager Dachau

Our next weekend adventure was to Bavaria, the largest federal state of Germany. We stretched our time over 4 days, flying out Thursday afternoon and back late Monday night.

Our first outing was out to Konzentrationslager Dachau - a sobering reminder of the Nazi's crimes against humanity. Opened in March 1933, it was the first concentration camp of the Nazis and a prototype and model for all subsequent camps. Its stands today as vivid testament to what has passed. Work shall set you free, indeed.

One wonders how not only the local villages and towns, but how the global community managed to turn a blind eye and let the evils of this regime pass unnoticed for so long.

A sombre start to our trip, but a visit to these places of remembrance are something that everyone should do.
